Last week we reported on a manatee spotted near Lake Calcasieu just a few miles east of the Texas-Louisiana border. Now we have a confirmed sightings in Texas’ Trinity Bay.
From KRPC: “A manatee was spotted Sunday in the waters of Trinity Bay by a Chambers County deputy.
The manatee has been identified by wildlife experts as an adult male that normally spends winters in Tampa Bay.
Experts were able to identify him based on scar patterns on his back. They tell Local 2 he could average around 10 feet tall and up to 1,200 pounds.”
A rescue effort is planned to get this big mammal back to a safer area.
